It's always freezing around here. Freezing, cloudy, and generally gross outside. It looked misty from the snow last night, so I was inspired to write this. Asdfjkl, I hate writing poetry. I can't do it ._.'

Winter
By Taka, the Skyflier Rune

Snow is falling, fine yet think
Leaving roadways frozen, slick
It is great, but also small
Making snowbanks three feet tall
Freezing wind and icy air
But the children, they don't care
Going out despite the gale
Sometimes getting hit by hail
Plant life withers, flowers die
Cold as ice, and desert dry
But spring will return again
Bringing with it our old friends
Birds will sing, and Runes will fly
And once again, we'll touch the sky

For Taka, the Skyflier Rune. He's so sexy .3.

More competition posts. I really like the female Nocturne Rune .3.

- - -

The little black dragon with glowing green markings sighed. Garnet was right. There really were no firelight flies... Er, fireflies, as she called them, around here. Which was a shame, as she was rather hungry. She glanced back as her back door opened.

"Are you still out here, 'Taru?" asked a large pink wolf. She placed her paws on the grill the Rune sat on. "Come on, you should really go in. It's cold out here. I mean, it's December, right? That's pretty much winter around here. Heck, even October is freezing here!"

The dragon sighed. "No, Hana. I'm not leaving until I see a firelight fly."

The goddess rolled her eyes. "Come on, even I know those things aren't around here. And they're called fireflies in this area, okay?"

"I'm not leaving."

"I don't think they even come around here during winter!"

"I don't care. They'll find me."

Hana shook her head. "You're really hopeless, you know that? Even more than-"

She was interrupted by a small shriek from the creature. "I see one! I knew there were some here!" she exclaimed, flying off towards a small, bouncing light.

Wait... Bouncing?

The goddess-wolf ran after her. "Hey, Hotaru? Hotaru? Hotaru, that's not-!"

Too late. The Rune had already snapped up the glowing creature. "Huh, I'd never seen a pink firelight fly before. Never even heard of one, in fact. Is that a subspecies only found around here or something?" she asked, her mouth full.

"No, it's not! It's not a firefly, or a firelight fly, or anything! Now spit it out!" she exclaimed, skidding to a stop and panting. "Just trust me, you'll want to spit it out right now!"

Hotaru tilted her head. The goddess certainly seemed rather panicked...

As much as she resented doing it, she obliged, spitting out the luminescent creature.

"Oh, gross!" yelled a tiny voice. "I knew Ammy did this sort of thing to Issun a long time ago, but a bird... Dragon... Thing?! Come on! That's just ridiculous! And your slobber glows, too! Ick!"

Hana sweatdropped. "That's what I was afraid of."

Hotaru, meanwhile, was glancing between the tiny, insect-like creature, which was now hopping about furiously and leaving small drops of glowing green saliva all over, and Hana. "What is that?" she eventually asked.

Hana sighed. "That, my friend, would be a Poncle."

The dragon stared. "A what?"

"Oh, boy, how do I explain this..?" The wolf mumbled. "Well, Poncles are basically tiny glowing people. It's hard to explain, but they're basically-"

"Trained artists, messengers of the gods, etcetera, etcetera," interrupted the Poncle. "Which makes me wonder, why would you try to eat me if your friend here is a goddess?! We're some of the ones who give them their power, you know!"

Hotaru raised an eyebrow. "Friends? With her?" she asked. "Hahaha no," she said flatly. "And how do you know whether or not she's a goddess? Maybe she's just a really weird dog."

They couldn't see it, but the Poncle rolled her eyes. "Because, stupid, I can tell when someone's a deity or not. Besides, with how many different deities there are, there's got to be someone to be an envoy for them! I just so happen to have been assigned to her."

"Assigned to... Wait, so you're Momiji?" Hana asked, surprised.

"Ugh! Please don't call me that! I am not a Sohma, nor do I plan to be!" She hopped up onto the Rune Dragon's nose. "So, what's this idiot's name?"

"This 'idiot' can say for herself," she growled. "Hotaru."

"I see. Well, I don't exactly have anywhere to stay, so I'm with you guys from now on, okay?"

"No." With that, she flung the Poncle to the ground.

"Actually, yes," Hana interjected. "She kind of has to be, being my envoy and all. She has to stay somewhere, anyway."

"Well, why here?"

"You grabbed her in your mouth and covered her in spit. Ever since Issun and Ammy, Poncles usually stay with people who do that. They're usually friends, too."

"...Oh. Well, that's incredibly stupid."

"May I interject?" asked Momiji.

"No," the two replied.

"...Well, fine, then. But I will say this: If you call me by my full name again, I'll draw on your face while you sleep. Like a Jigglypuff. Got it? Get it? Good."

And, with that, the group had yet another addition to their 'Gemstones', as Garnet liked to call them. And, as much as it irritated Hotaru at the time, she was here to stay. At least they became fairly good friends after a while, right?

...Right?

...No?

- - -

So, yeah. Somewhat obscure references made here. If you don't know where Momiji came from, or what she is, you may want to check out the Ōkami Wiki and the page on it about Poncles. If nothing else, it should help clear things up a little, right~? Also, the Sohma comment is about Fruits Basket. Being one of the more popular shōjo manga/anime series around here, I'm not going to link to it, being a less important reference than the other stuff.

Well, rambling aside, good luck to all who entered for her, and I can't wait to see who wins~

My god, I'm bored. And tired. And kind of hungry. And I should probably be making sure I know all my math and algebra and whatnot for the exam later today, but you know what? I have time. This is workshop. Besides, I still need to do my story for Zilar!

- - -

I looked down at the fluffy dragon with mismatched eyes laying near my feet. I'm not sure what drew me to him - He had rather plain colors in comparison to so many other Beans, and a fairly simple design, whereas I'm normally attracted to brightly-colored things with intricate or crazy patterns. He didn't seem to stand out, except for the fact that, somehow, he was playing... A Nintendo DS? And it appeared to have... Pokémon Black 2 inserted into it? It appeared to be so, based on the fact that there was a laptop next to him on a GameFaqs guide for the game - At least, when it wasn't being switched to a tab with Homestuck on it.

I briefly wondered how an adoption center like this could possibly pay for something like that... Then wondered if I would have to pay to get one. That wouldn't work. I was broke, just like part of the glass on the top screen of the game system the dragon was using.

The dragon looked up at me, then jumped. "O-Oh! A-Are you the one who l-lost this? I-I'm so sorry! I-It was j-just laying there, and I a-asked around, but n-nobody r-recognized it, so I kind of t-took it... I-If I didn't, who w-would, right..? I-I'm really sorry, though! A-Also, the top screen was kind of c-cracked when I f-found it... I-If it makes you f-feel better, though, I didn't d-delete your s-save file or anything... S-Sorry, though, I r-really didn't-"

"Woah, calm down, buddy. It's not mine. I just came to adopt one of you guys," I said, petting his head.

"O-Oh. O-Okay. That's f-fine. I was just a l-little worried, th-that's all," he mumbled, turning back to his game.

I crouched down next to him. "So, Pokémon Black 2, huh?" I asked. "You like gaming?"

"Huh? O-Oh, yes. I've found that a lot of times, it h-helps me calm down. I-I'm not sure if you could t-tell, but I'm usually fairly jumpy, so when I found this..."

"You decided you'd take it?" I finished for him. Then I realized how judgmental that must have sounded. "Well, if they really wanted it, they probably wouldn't have left it there, and if it was an accident, they should have come forward and claimed it," I added quickly.

"O-Oh, well, yes, I g-guess so. I can't help but feel b-bad for whoever lost this, though. It might be c-cracked, but it works pretty well. Plus, w-what if they weren't from around here, so they c-couldn't get it back? Or what if they didn't have m-much money?" he suddenly got a guilty look on his face. "I-I didn't mean to do anything b-bad, but..."

I shrugged, petting his head. "Well, if they really want it back, maybe they'll come here looking for it or something. Besides, they probably have a 3DS or something that would work just fine, which would mean that all they lost was a copy of a game and a DS with a bad screen."

"...Y-Yeah, I guess you're probably right. This isn't even a newer m-model, anyway. I think it's a DS Lite." He turned the system so that I could see it.

I nodded. "It looks almost like mine, aside for the color," I agreed, pulling out my own - I always had it on me. "See?"

The dragon stared at it. "Isn't that one of the l-limited edition ones that came with a Nintendogs game?"

"Yep! Got it for... Either Christmas or my birthday a few years back. I don't really want to trade it in, seeing as it's limited edition and all, but the L-Button went and the D-Pad is sort of going, so..."

"Oh, the L-Button isn't working? H-Have you tried blowing into it like you do for the cartridges?" he asked, tilting his head.

"Yup. No luck with that. I'm guessing it has something to do with the spring-"

"The spring? Oh, I might be able to help you with that, i-if you don't mind me voiding the w-waranty!" he exclaimed.

I shrugged. "The thing's pretty old anyway, and it'll probably be traded in if the stuff won't work, so if you think you can fix it, knock yourself out. Just let me get my games out of there," I replied, pulling out the games and handing the system over.

"I'll do my best!"

It took him maybe five minutes to pull apart the L-Buttons on both game systems, take the springs out, and switch them around. He pressed the button back onto my DS and held it out to me.

"Yeah, the spring was pretty l-loose on yours, from what I could tell. You must use that thing a lot, huh?" he asked.

I nodded, taking the game and sticking my copy of Kirby Mass Attack into it. "Well, we'll see soon if it worked or not, seeing as there's a pinball game on this..." I commented, waiting for the game to load up. "What's your name, anyway?"

He sweatdropped. "My n-name? I-I don't really h-have one, to be honest. Most of the time, our new o-owners give us names. For the time being, they've been calling me Z-Zilar."

"Zilar? That sounds like a cool name, if you ask me," I told the dragon. I pressed a few buttons on my game, and soon enough, I was indeed playing a game of pinball with a working L-Button. "Oh, wow! It worked! How did you know how to do that, anyway?"

Zilar shrugged, grinning. "I've always been interested in things like that. E-Everyone thought it was weird, but I guess w-weird isn't always a bad thing, huh?" he explained cheerfully.

I laughed. "Buddy, you're talking to the queen of weirdness!" I exclaimed, standing up. "Come on, then!"

The Bean tilted his head. "Huh?"

"I like you! You're here because you're up for adoption, right?" I asked, at which he nodded uncertainly. "Well, then, what are we waiting for? Let's go!"

The Bean glanced at the laptop, then shrugged, closing the lid. "One thing f-first, though. What's your name, miss?"

I grinned, sticking both of the game systems into my coat pockets and grabbing the laptop. "I have a lot of them, but for now, you can call me Garnet!"

You know what? I just realized something. This blog, which was originally just a place to store my copy-paste things, has actually turned into a blog of sorts, even if it's mostly full of competition stuff. Huh. I never would have thought I'd find time to successfully manage a blog. Who would have thought?

Anyway, I'm still half asleep, and I meant to write a story or something for that JBD I'm trying for, but I don't think that would end well right now, so you get this instead. Yes. Because why not?

Another entry post. This one's for a Jellybean Dragon I'm going for ^^

Favorites

Favorite Food:
He really likes spaghetti, which is good, as that's one of the few things I can cook.
Favorite Drink: Pink lemonade. He loves it.
Favorite Color: Pinks and purples.
Favorite Song: His favorite song is Reset from Ōkami, be it the original, the 'Thank You' version, or the SuriOokami dub. He says it's a shame the credits weren't included in the English Wii release. He's a big fan of SuriOokami's songs in general, actually, especially Pok
émoshka.
Favorite Activity: Playing games or reading. It's hard to find him doing something that isn't related to one of these things.
Favorite Animal: He really likes the chickadees that live up here. They're our state bird, you know~
Favorite Number: Three. He says he loves they way it curves, and how it can be written in so many ways. Huh.
Favorite Gemstone: Rose quartz. He prefers pink diamonds, to be honest, but the quartz is cheap and we're broke. He says he's fine with either, though, and he didn't seem too nervous about saying that, so I guess it's true.
Favorite Flower: He really likes lotus flowers, for some reason. I think it might have to do with a certain book in a certain series that Hana doesn't care for, but I'm not sure.
Favorite Book: He seems to like them all, be they little kids books, popular teenage ones, huge encyclopedias, or strategy guides and gaming magazines.

Least Favorites

Least Favorite Food:
He doesn't seem to like quiche, not that he tells anyone.
Least Favorite Drink: Soda of any kind. He hates the bubbly feeling in his mouth when he drinks it.
Least Favorite Color: He doesn't care for brown, it seems.
Least Favorite Song: I'm not sure if he really has one, to be honest. He never complains about any of them, after all.
Least Favorite Activity: Socializing with people he doesn't know very well. He gets all nervous and jittery.
Least Favorite Animal: For some reason, he's horrified of real-life dragonflies. He seems to be okay with Sparx, though.
Least Favorite Number: One. He says that it's rather boring, usually being just a straight line or two.
Least Favorite Gemstone: Alexandrite. He doesn't seem to care for the color change it goes through. I don't know why. I think it's cool, to be honest~!
Least Favorite Flower: Roses. He tried to pick one once, and he got himself all cut up. It didn't help that a bee stung him once when he really did try to stop and smell the roses...
Least Favorite Book: As I said above, he seems to like them all. He even gives poorly written FanFiction a shot sometimes, and usually comes out saying 'At least they tried, right?' I should really have him try that My Immortal drinking game some time...

Another competition post. This one's for Toby, a baby Rune Dragon I've entered for~

- - - - -

I yawned. Getting up at five-thirty in the morning to do a pancake breakfast for our school's robotics team was not my idea of a great vacation-week Saturday. It didn't help that I'd been standing outside, holding signs in the cold November winds, for nearly an hour. Oh, well. At least I'd avoided being there when they completely ruined the first bunch and filled the entire church basement with smoke. You'd think that, with a group of over thirty high-school kids and almost ten adults, they'd be able to get someone competent running the cooking.

One of the team leaders working the kitchen called me over, passing me a large, syrupy, messily stacked plate of pancakes for some person at the far end of the third table to the left. I could have sworn I'd heard chuckling when I grabbed it, or maybe saw something gleam slightly from within the stack, but who knew?

I'd just gotten to the table when something burst out of the stack. Pancakes flew everywhere, leaving half the nearby room coated in sweet, sticky syrup - Including myself. I blinked a few times, then stared down at the plate. A tiny dragon-creature stared up at me, munching on the remains of one of the pancakes it had broken apart when it jumped out at us. It giggled happily, apparently amused.

Everyone stared at me. The people eating, the people I'd been delivering to, the team leaders, the other students... Everyone. I chuckled nervously, shrugging.

"...I should probably go," I stated, glancing around. Everyone continued staring at me and the creature on the plate, which flapped its wings and growled in a way that sounded almost like how I imagine the Final Fantasy III Chocobos sounding.

I did the only thing I thought to do. I ran like hell, cell phone in one hand, dragon in the other.

'Hey, where did you say your house was?' I sent my friend, still running.

'By the school. Why?'

'I mean, what's your address?'

'Why?'

'It's hard to explain. I need to come over, okay? Is Philip there? If not, I seriously need to gtfo of here and to somewhere where the people at the pancake breakfast won't kill me.'

'?'

'Just trust me.'

She sent me her address, then some directions to her house when I told her I didn't know where the street she lived on was. I got confused, so eventually we just decided to meet at the school and head to her house from there.

"Holy crap, it's cold out. Why did you drag me out here, anyway?" Ashlee asked when I arrived, clearly annoyed at having to get up and out of the house so early. She looked me over. "Wow, you look awful. Is that syrup?"

"Basically? Pancake breakfast. Stack of pancakes on a plate. Covered in syrup. Exploded everywhere, all thanks to this guy." I unzipped my jacket slightly, allowing the dragon's sticky head to pop out and look questioningly at us, as if wondering why we had no pancakes any more.

"...What is that?" she asked.

"Honestly? I'm not sure. I think it might be a Rune Dragon, but-"

She cut me off. "I'm sorry, what?"

"Look, I'll explain it later. For now, I need to get inside and shower or something."

She led me to her house, where I tossed my clothes into her washing machine and showered. After putting on one of her shirts and a pair of jeans (My clothes weren't done at the time), I left the room. I found both her and the dragon sitting at her dining table, where the dragon was eating it's way through a large bowl of cereal.

"That's his third one so far," she mumbled, staring at the thing. "What did you say he was?"

"A Rune Dragon. Let me see your laptop." She handed it over and I opened a new tab on Firefox. I typed in a few words and hit enter. "Rune Dragon, see?" I asked, clicking the first like to show up.

"Okay, sure, I guess. Can you tell what kind he is?"

I glanced through the breed descriptions. "Let's see... No, no, no, maybe... Oh, I think this is it! 'Flapjack Rune'... Sounds about right, and they look about the same. This one's kind of smaller, though."

She shrugged. "I bet he's a baby or something."

The dragon chirped at us, then fluttered over to the counter and knocked over the box of cereal. The puffy, chocolate spheres scattered all over, and the Rune stuck it's head into the box and continued eating.

"Well, if he's a baby, we kind of need to give him a home or something. I mean, he can't exactly stay outside in the middle of winter around here, you know." We both looked at each other.

"Not it!" we exclaimed together.

"I'm not keeping him," Ashlee complained. "He'll eat all our food."

"Yes, but I'm the one whose mother works ten hours a week for seventy-five dollars!" I replied.

"Yeah, but you have pet chickens! You'll be fine with them around!"

"They haven't even been laying recently! They're not machines, you know!"

"Still, when they do lay, you have enough eggs that you give them away!"

Our argument continued for several minutes, by which time the little Rune had finished off the half-empty box of Cocoa Puffs. He flapped back over to the table and stared up at us, chirping.

Ashlee glanced at him, then back at me. "Okay, fine. How about this? We flip a coin. If it's heads, I keep him, if it's tails, you do. Got it?"

"Fine. You should know that  always win these things, though." I pulled out some of the change I'd been given after my Frosty's run earlier that day.

Flip.

The quarter turned several times in the air, then landed on the table with a thud.

...Well, it would have, if it weren't for the Rune, who caught it in it's mouth as it fell.

"...That's not edible, smart one!" I yelled at it. The Rune glanced at me, tilted it's head as if contemplating, then spit the coin out on the table.

Tails.

"Well, he's yours, then."

"That doesn't count! He tried to eat it!"

"No. It does count. What's his name?"

I sighed, giving up. "Well, it's a Flapjack Rune, right?" I asked, thinking.

"Yes, and it's a boy."

I sighed, giving in. The little Rune was a living thing, so calling it an it wasn't exactly normal.

"Fine. He's a Flapjack Rune, right?" She nodded. "Well, then, let's think."

"Well, obviously, there's Pancake."

"Ew, no."

"Flapjack?"

"Hell, no. I hate that show. Cartoon Network sucks."

She shrugged. "Syrup?"

"Nah."

"Maple?"

I shook my head.

"Butter?"

"That's just weird."

"Well, that's all I've got, so unless you've got something..."

"Hmm..." A lightbulb went off. "I've got it! Toby!"

She stared. "What?"

"See, I had this cat once. His name was Toby. We got him at that art in the park thing they do every year. See, his old owner didn't want him any more, so we took him in and named him Toby."

"So?"

"So, his name before that was Pancake!"

"...I see."

The slight rumbling that had served as background noise came to a stop.

"Hey, I think your clothes are done drying. You said you were supposed start going home at eleven, right?"

I nodded.

"...It's eleven thirty."

I stared at the clock. "...Oh. Well, I'm screwed, huh?"

She sighed. "Go change your clothes. I'll have Philip drive us to your house so you get there at the time you normally would have, okay?"

"Got it! Thanks for letting me come over!" I said, running to the dryer and grabbing my stuff to change into.

And as annoyed and slightly irritated as I was, a part of me was still happy to have the little Rune - Even if it did mean I would need to wash all the clothes in my house on a nearly daily basis.

For another contest. This one's for Jewel Mane Dragon number 145~

Favorites

Favorite Food:
He really likes fruit, especially blackberries.
Favorite Drink: He's a big fan of apple cider, especially when it's warm.
Favorite Color: As odd as it is, he really likes light purple. Huh.
Favorite Song: Strawberry Avalanche by Owl City. To quote Jim Gaffigan: "This guy's obsessed on food!"
Favorite Activity: Napping in the sun. He does it constantly. Except, you know, at night.
Favorite Animal: He really likes our pet chickens. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, though, considering the quote I mentioned earlier...
Favorite Number: 3.1415. Why? Because Pi sounds like pie.
Favorite Gemstone: Amethyst.
Favorite Flower: Dandelions. As odd as it is, he actually likes the dandelion greens my mother makes sometimes.
Favorite Book: Oran doesn't really read much, so he doesn't have one.

Least Favorites

Least Favorite Food:
Jeez, he likes everything. And my mother wonders why we're always broke |D
Least Favorite Drink: He doesn't like unsweetened tea at all.
Least Favorite Color: He doesn't care for cyan and light blues, for whatever reason.
Least Favorite Song: He doesn't care for most Paramore songs, which is a little sad, considering I have all of their CDs.
Least Favorite Activity: Running around or doing anything athletic. He once fell asleep just watching us play volleyball in gym.
Least Favorite Animal: He's absolutely terrified of beavers. Why beavers? I have absolutely no idea ._.'
Least Favorite Number: One-hundred and forty-five. Not even kidding. I don't think he knows that's his number. It's kind of funny, to be honest~!
Least Favorite Gemstone: He doesn't like turquoise, probably due to the color.
Least Favorite Flower: Forget-me-nots. Absolutely hates them.
Least Favorite Book: Like I said, he doesn't read much. He did attempt to look up a word in a dictionary, once. That dictionary... It got thrown down one of the storm drains that lead out to the ocean.

I'm incredibly happy. Why? It's quite simple.

Hana.

I won her.

When I found out about that, I nearly had a seizure. I've been having the best November ever, so far. First a shiny Audino in a Nuzlocke, of all things, my work for this quarter of Critical Thinking basically being to novelize Final Fantasy III (It could be anything, but that's what game I chose to do), and now Hana. Now, if only the teachers would quit giving me detentions XD

Also, I got 38 page views on here because of the announcement that I'd won her. I'm not sure who it was, but really, you guys rock. That was the most page views this place has ever gotten. Seriously, you guys are awesome, and good luck with any adoptions you take part in from here on out!

Whoo, another post about Hana~ I really love her, I gotta say, and I'd kill to have even one of these beautiful deities, especially her!

Favorites

Favorite Food:
Strawberry cake with vanilla icing. She can't get enough of the stuff!
Favorite Drink: Milkshakes of any kind, especially chocolate ones. It's a good thing she's a goddess, as the chocolate would probably make her sick if she weren't ^^'
Favorite Color: Pale yellows and pinks. She has trouble choosing just one of the two!
Favorite Song: Plant Life by Owl City. Figures.
Favorite Activity: Hana loves painting, oddly enough. It's one of the few things she does when not running about or hanging out with others.
Favorite Animal: She says she'd rather not pick favorites when it comes to living things, but she really loves all the colorful, tropical birds she's met while changing the seasons.
Favorite Number: Forty-two. That might be my fault...
Favorite Gemstone: Rubies, especially really clear, red, somewhat see-through ones.
Favorite Flower: When I asked her that, she went into a laughing fit. I guess she's not choosing.
Favorite Book: She doesn't appear to have one. Though she enjoys books, she claims to prefer FanFiction, and says her favorites are things like XIII Pokémon, Blue Sky, Group of Weirdos, and several parodies and Abridged Versions of
Ōkami.

Least Favorites

Least Favorite Food:
She doesn't care for hot dogs, from what I've seen. She doesn't seem to mind sausage, though. Odd. Also not a big fan of olives, especially green ones.
Least Favorite Drink: She absolutely hates tomato juice as a drink. She says it's fine in soup, though.
Least Favorite Color: She despises anything that has the same color as a green olive, save the plant life that springs up at her feet.
Least Favorite Song: She doesn't like classical, unless it's an orchestrated version of a song from a game or something. Claims it's boring.
Least Favorite Activity: Being bored. Who could blame her?
Least Favorite Animal: She likes pretty much all of them, from what I know of. Maybe bees. I think she might be allergic to them.
Least Favorite Number: She tends to skip over three when counting. Whether or not this is due to Valve, I'll probably never know.
Least Favorite Gemstone: Oddly, she's not a big fan of diamonds unless they're really sparkly, as she says the colors tend to be plain.
Least Favorite Flower: When I asked her that, she gave me a flat look that I assumed meant none.
Least Favorite Book: Err... Not a big fan of Twilight, to begin with. She once tore a copy in half with her teeth. Also doesn't care for the Immortals series or any other book that seems similar to it or the aforementioned series. Also hates the Lord of the Rings books, though she does like the movies.
